The International Maintenance Institute (IMI) selectively appoints exam proctors based on their credentials and reputation for responsibility, integrity, and ability to follow procedures dependably. Proctors are testing agents of the IMI, and are responsible for maintaining the reputation and merit of the Institute’s Certification Programs. It is imperative that all policies and procedures be followed to the letter. Any dishonesty, or failure to follow required procedures will result in the proctor’s appointment being withdrawn.
To request appointment as a Certification Exam Proctor, you must complete an application (click on Application for Proctor Appointment) and forward it to the IMI Executive Office with a letter from your local chapter president, supervisor, or department head, on letterhead stationary, requesting your appointment as a proctor and confirming your qualifications to conduct the exams. Mail these to:
International Maintenance Institute
P.O. Box 404
Wallingford, CT 0642
If at any time, information on the form changes, you must notify the IMI Executive Office (noted above) immediately. Keep these instructions for future reference. You may call the IMI Executive Office at (888) 207 1773 (Toll Free), or (281) 481 0869, fax (281) 481 8337, or e-mail: info@imionline.org with any questions.
The passing score for all IMI Certification Exams is 70%.
Any exam candidate who fails an exam may re-test after 60 days from the date he or she last took the exam. This time is to be used for remedial training.
Any exam candidate who is not personally known to the proctor responsible for the exam is required to provide photographic identification before being registered and given an exam booklet and answer sheet on the day of the test. Acceptable identification includes, but is not limited to: driver’s licenses, government identification cards, passports, and military identification.
Upon written request at least 30 days prior to the scheduled testing date, the exam may be administered orally to anyone making this request. The letter must explain why the request is being made. On the day of the exam, a copy of the letter must be included in the returned exam question booklet, along with the answer sheet and registration form.
Upon written request at least 30 days prior to the scheduled testing date, candidates who are not sufficiently conversant in English may provide a translator, at their own expense (if any). The translator must have no industry knowledge or background. On the day of the exam, a copy of the letter requesting translator assistance must be included in the returned exam question booklet, along with the answer sheet and registration form.
The fees for all exams, re-exams, and certification are:
Member: $150.00
Non-Member: $270.00
All levels of Technical Certification except, CMT-I and CWWMT-1, require an IMI Certification in the immediately preceding level. Candidates are encouraged to take one test at a time, and await results, before testing for the next level. However, due to the fact that testing opportunities may be limited in some cases, participants are permitted to take next-grade exams before receiving results for the preceding level(s), as long as the exam(s) for that (those) level(s) was (were) attempted. In such cases, however, if the candidate passes the higher-level exam(s), but fails one or more of the prior level’s test, no certification is awarded. A record is kept of those exams completed successfully, and the advanced-grade certification will be automatically awarded upon passing the exam(s) for the preceding level(s)
